Asthma Australia is offering PhD Scholarships for postgraduate students to undertake research relevant to asthma. Only Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents and international students awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) are eligible for these awards. Applicants who have already completed a PhD or research professional doctorate or equivalent are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. The application deadline is 14 February 2014.
About Scholarship: These Scholarships are awarded by Asthma Australia to enable postgraduates to undertake research relevant to asthma. A panel of experts will recommend recipients to the Asthma Australia Board. Applications that do not meet the stipulated guidelines will not be accepted. Together with our funding partners and each Asthma Foundation, Asthma Australia is committed to measuring the impact of not only our own programs and services as well as supporting many of Australia’s leading respiratory research teams and Universities to fund research activities. The national program has two components: Research Grants – Basic Science and Population & Social Health and Scholarships. Asthma Australia in partnership with our member State and Territory Foundations contribute nearly $1 million to research and evaluation activities. With your help our ability to raise additional funds from the community means we can expand the number of projects we fund and expedite the process of finding safer and more effective treatments for asthma, and hopefully one day a cure.

Eligibility: -Only Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents and international students awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) are eligible for these Awards.
-Awards will not be available to those who: -Have already completed a PhD or research professional doctorate or equivalent;
-Have already completed a research masters degree or equivalent unless intending to undertake a research or professional doctorate (ie a scholarship holder cannot hold an award for a second research masters);
-Have previously held an APA, APA (Industry) or an Australian government funded Postgraduate Research Award unless it was terminated within six months of commencement of the award.

Selection Criteria: All Asthma Australia Scholarship applications will be assessed as follows:
Track record of applicant & suitability for research 50%
Track record of supervisor 30%
Proposed research 20%
Notification: Successful applicants will be notified by 7 March 2014. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified. No feedback will be provided.
